Except they often don't.
What actually follows is a room full of people who are very good at arriving at the same conclusions slightly faster than before. That's not innovation. That's optimization. And in a landscape where the next wave of disruption is more likely to come from a behavioral economist or a theater director than another Stanford CS grad, optimization might be the most dangerous place to get comfortable.

Let's be honest: cognitively diverse collaboration is uncomfortable in ways that feel unproductive in the moment. Meetings take longer. Misunderstandings happen. The instinct — especially in fast-moving startup environments — is to cut that friction out. Hire for culture fit. Stick with the people who already get it. Move faster.
But fast and stuck is still stuck.
